I have no time…

I don’t have time…

Best excuse for not eating well, not finding a boyfriend, not having hobbies, not seeing family or friends, not having a social life, not exercising, not reading, not learning, not writing your book, not finding a new job and not challenging ourselves. The list could go on to a full page of things you want to try and avoid in your life.

That excuse is the bullshit that we tell ourselves to let us off the hook from doing the things that scare us or could potentially make us really happy BUT we need to show a bit of that vulnerability that I have talked to you about before.

Then, when we start to find some time instead of using productively to work on the above list, we take on more work or the easy stuff so we can keep using it as our shield.

Yeah, I am a pro at that too.

Our comfort zone is not our best friend but in fact our worst enemy. It’s all cosy and comfy there and no one can touch us, no one can hurt us, we can‘t be challenged or have to justify ourselves.

Over there we are awesome, yes. BUT. We are not being the most awesome that we could be.

Yes, we will sometimes get it wrong, we will fail, it won’t work out how we would like it to, BUT it will in the long run make us and our world better.

How many times have you eventually been forced to do something and when you did it, you realised that it wasn’t as bad as you thought it would have been or even wished that you had started it sooner?

So this weekend, off of your list of things that you should be doing but have managed to avoid through your business… Do 1 thing to change it. Take a step to making a start.

Start to stress less

Yesterday I asked you to start to get a list together working out what stressed you and identifying the ones that freaked you out the most.

And, to start breathing… How did you find changing your breathing? I have never really been aware of how shallow my breathing was until I started looking in to stress and the additional problems it could cause.

So why are we looking at stress this week?

Many of us have created a monster in our world trying to be everything to everyone except to ourselves (you will be more aware of that after last weeks self-love tasks).

We have created our own stress by not learning to say no, and that doesn’t just mean that we have shit loads more work to do. There are a whole host of knock on effects too…

How is your sleep?

How is your eating? Do you regularly over or under eat?

Do you need coffee to get you going in the morning?

How is your libido?

How many days off from work do you take where you take proper time out?

Do you find that you often can’t think straight or are forgetful?

Be honest with these answers, if you are waking up tired, need stimulants to get you going, don’t even think about sex never mind have it, and are on call 24/7 and can’t remember the last time you had a full day off all to yourself, you are stressed.

On average we only take about 18 days holiday a year (and I know many that take a lot less than that). In France they take an average of 7 weeks holiday a year… How nice would that be, and they have 2 days a week off too.

We look to the other European countries and see how chilled they are, we envy their laid back lifestyle, lazy mornings, siestas, family dinners, coffee, wine, bread, cakes… Yet, we don’t follow their example, we wish for it, but do nothing about trying to get it. Instead we work an extra couple of hours here and there, through days off thinking we can have that lifestyle when we retire…

If we don’t die from stress related illness first…

So how do we improve where we are?

From your list yesterday you should have established what you can ditch and what you genuinely need to deal with.

Become a time nazi… I am not kidding here, schedule every single minute of your day and stick to it. If someone else can’t fit in to your available times then they don’t get any of your time. You don’t drop everything to do stuff for other people. Schedule your down time, switch your phone off, only have open on your computer what you need, don’t get distracted by social media, focus on the task and get it done. When that reminder pops up, you down tools, go for your walk / tea / lunch whatever and come back fresher and more focused ready to go. You will get a whole lot more done in your day, I promise.

We are taking this stress combating one step at a time. If you find that you waste a lot of time on your phone, delete the apps, consider getting a phone that just makes calls and sends texts. We do not need to be contacted 24/7.

Get organised… this is step 2 in reducing stress in your life.

Time is ticking

Don’t wait for the holidays

It is great to have things to look forward to, holidays, nights out, time with family or friends.

How often do you sit at work thinking it’s nearly the weekend / long weekend / weeks holiday?

What about the rest of the time?

What are you doing while you are waiting?

What stops you from doing more exciting or interesting things every day?

Sometimes you have to do shit boring things, that’s life, very few people enjoy housework and those that do should make it their career.

What if you started to change the way you looked at the boring things and see them as something that gets you to the next point. I do housework so I have a clean house to sit in and clean clothes to wear every day. I sit at my computer for hours a couple of days a week so that I can get my message out to you guys.

Changing the way you think about your day helps you get through it better. If changing your thoughts doesn’t help then there are other things to consider…

Do you find that you are exhausted by the end of your working day? Have you considered looking at your nutrition? Are you eating enough? Are you eating the right kinds of foods to nourish your body? Soul food is called soul food because it makes you feel good inside.

Have you considered shortening your working day (if at all possible) I know that so many of us work all day from 7am (or earlier) till 9pm (or later) and don’t always if at all take a lunch break. Is that you? Do you need to start looking at how to restructure your day? Do you need to be stricter with your time and not let other people take over your life and schedule?

Make the most of what you have. Enjoy it, be happy, if you hate it don’t do it. Live for each day, each moment.

Find a job you love, fill your life with people you love, do things that make you happy.

Don’t waste a minute. Life is too short not to live and love it. No regrets, no wishing you had made more time for your family and friends. No one ever got to their death bed and said they were glad they stayed in the office that extra hour… Just saying…
