Yes… or No…

Yes… Or No…

Learning what to say Yes to and what to say No to can be a challenge and I would say for most of the people I work with they (and I have had to learn to do this to) need to learn to say Yes to more of the things that will make them happy and serves them a purpose and No to more of the things that serve them no purpose and drain the life out of them.

For example:

Yes to:

  • More nights out
  • More fun
  • Exercise or activity you enjoy
  • Learning
  • Creativity
  • Holidays
  • Peace and quiet

No to:

  • More work
  • Working with the wrong people / in the wrong environment
  • Doing things for other people
  • Unrealistic deadlines
  • Working through your lunch
  • Doing things for other people before yourself
  • High pressure and chaos
  • Doing things that drain your energy (in a bad way)

Most of us have this round the wrong way, we think if we say yes to all the things on the no list we will get notices, we will feel good because we are doing things for others, that the pat on the head will be enough.

Believe me, it’s not. When you start saying yes to you there will be so much more validation and respect and happiness in your life that you will wonder why you didn’t start doing it sooner.

Rest and recovery and having time to be creative will mean that you are so much more productive in work that it will seem a breeze and everything will feel good and that you are serving your purpose, or you will realise that you are totally in the wrong job/industry and make the right move for you.

With that in mind, what have you said yes to this weekend and what have you said no to? Is there anything that you need to change your mind over?
