Step 1 it might not be the sexy stuff but it is the sexy stuff

I have lost count of the number of conversations I have had with people about the results that they are not getting in the gym, and the panic and upset if they miss a session.

Some of them are not getting any change at all and worse some of them seem to still be gaining weight.

The thing is, it doesn’t matter if you miss a session at the gym, it won’t even make a huge difference if you miss a whole week…

There are a few factors that you need to consider before you even start worrying about your gym sessions…

The first and most important thing that you need to be looking at if you are not getting any change is:

Your mind-set.

You need to be honest with yourself, what is it you actually want and what are you prepared to do to get it? How do you really feel every day? If you feel exhausted, depressed, lethargic, switched off, have a low sex drive, overwhelmed among other things then you need to take a step back and get some balance in to your life.

You need to have a clear goal in your head of what it is you are actually looking for so that you know when you get there.

Now if your end result is to look like a fitness model you see on social media you need to understand that year round that is not what they look like. They only look like that for the photoshoot and there will have been a bit of Photo Shop going on along with tanning, lighting, shading, serious dieting and dehydrating (just to look like that in a photo) and years and years of training.

Do you like going to the gym for the social aspect? You get to chat to your friends, have some fun and laughs at class and work up a bit of a sweat when you are there so you don’t feel guilty about the coffee and cake you are having later in the week… This is totally fine to have this as your goal.

Do you have a challenge that you want to achieve? A marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, triathlon, a long bike ride, an obstacle assault course race? If you have something in mind you need to plan for that event and get a training plan in place to help you achieve that goal.

If you want something bad enough then change will happen, sacrifices won’t feel like sacrifices because you are focused on getting that end result.

Think about everything you do as a lifetime investment, there is nothing more valuable in this world that the body you live in, and it is with you for life.

If you only kind of want something, it will always feel like a struggle.

All the fad diets, miracle cures and quick fixes might seem sexy and fun, they don’t work though unless you get the ground level things working for you – I am going to talk more about these through the rest of this week.

Think about how many of them you have tried over the years, think about how many of them have actually worked (if you have made it a part of your lifestyle then it’s working, if you have ‘fallen off the wagon’ then it’s not).

You have to be in a place of loving yourself and looking after yourself before you can give to anyone else.

So, this week, I am going to take you through the most fundamental area’s of your life that you need to get right.

Today, mind-set. Where is your head at? What is it you really want? How do you really feel?
