Bringing more happiness and a different perspective on life courtesy of Winnie the Pooh… today’s quote:
“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”
I love this quote. So many times I hear grumbles and moans that people go to networking events, nights out, parties and ‘no-one ever speaks to me’… My question is always ‘how many people did you go and speak to?’
Sometimes that question is to a friend, family member, or myself…
If we want to make friends, build relationships, build businesses, find a partner or just generally be more sociable we need to put in some of the effort.
Why should everyone else have to do all the ground work? It is a 2 way street. Maybe the other people are shy, maybe we seem unapproachable, maybe they are scared of rejection too…
If everyone waits for someone else to make the first move we are going to be an even lonelier and more disconnected society than we already are.
You can start to make connections and start to build relationships on your computer, phone, tablet but to make it count you need to meet that person in real life, have a real conversation. It’s only then will you know if you actually connect with people.
I have connected with people online before that seemed like the life and soul of the party only to meet them in real life and we really struggled to hold a conversation. On the other hand I have had very blunt conversations with people via technology only to find that they are really open, warm and great to connect with in the real world.
It takes just one person to make the first move…
